This week, we are taking a look back at some of Chester’s cafés of yesteryear.

These images come from the city’s History and Heritage Centre who have just released a permanent exhibition in the foyer.

Nowadays, Chester has a range of modern cafés to choose from, and there have been many preceding them too.

Here we can see The Plane Tree on Bridge Street, which used to be known for its hot buttered teacakes before it was later turned into a Wimpy; Deeways which many may remember for its milkshakes and coffee.

And do you remember The People’s Café on Brook Street, which is now Chester Tandoori, which was famous for an unusual ‘hole in the wall’ burger service, popular with hungry revellers after a night out!
