This week we have raided the Mirrorpix archives and found some long-forgotten snaps of Chester city centre .

Eastgate Street is seen here in both the 1950s and the early 1990s, back when open top bus tours of the city had just begun.

And how many of you remember Knights nightclub opposite the train station on City Road? Pictured here in December 1992, the venue that is now known today as The Live Rooms, has changed hands many times over the years, probably best known as The Royal Mail Social Club, and The Laugh Inn where people like John Bishop performed. As the Live Rooms, it is currently one of Chester’s main music venues.

Also pictured in August 1966, is a hostel on City Road. According to news reports at the time, its owners were left ‘stumped’ when their frequent offers for women to come and live there were rejected, and only men responded to invitations.
