We all know the public toilets on Chester’s Frodsham Street as a frequently visited facility on this busy shopping street.
So it may come as a surprise to some to learn that the lavatories are reputed to be haunted by one of the city’s most disturbing ghosts.
According to website Paranormal Chester, the alleged story goes that the male Frodsham Street toilets are haunted by the spirit of a young man who is believed to have committed suicide either inside or near the facilities.
Witnesses have described the strange man as being in his late teens or early twenties, wearing clothing that implies that he may have died in the 1950s or early 1960s. Not a lot more is known about the man’s identity.
The apparition of this man, who has been nicknamed Tom, has been sighted on a number of occasions, brandishing a bloodied razor blade in his right hand with his wrists bleeding profusely to the floor.
‘Tom’ is said to have a pale appearance, apart from his eyes, which have been described as vivacious, sparkling and alive. He has been seen to suddenly appear in the corner of the room as visitors relieve themselves at the urinal.
Spookily, sightings of Tom intensified in 2011 when the toilets were refurbished.
