Helsby High School pupils competed at the World Marathon Challenge at Sportcity in Manchester last month.

The team of 35 children from Years 8 and 9 completed the race in 200m legs in 1:54.59, breaking the school and stadium records and earning them second place out of the 122 teams from around the world who took part.

More than half of the team and 14 out of the 16 of the boys who competed will be eligible to run again next year.

Head of physical education Paul Park said: “It was a fantastic effort from everyone involved and the team never allowed their effort and intensity levels to drop even as they started to tire, pushing each other on more and more as the race continued.”
