Community groups in Helsby have received a cash boost from their parish council and ward councillor.

Helsby Running Club, Helsby Indoor Bowling Club, Helsby High School, Friends of Hillside, Showtime Fundraisers, Helsby High School (Recycling), Helsby Junior RUFC and Mersey Weaver Scouts were each awarded £500 grants, funded by the discretionary budget of Cllr Les Ford and Helsby Parish Council.

Chairman of Helsby Parish Council Andy McPherson presented the cheques at the council’s November meeting.

Each group had three minutes to present to councillors why they should receive the money before it was put out to a vote.

Cllr Chris Ellams said: “This is the second year we have held the grant awards evening. It provides much-needed funds to local groups and societies.

“It is good to see that local groups and societies are thriving and the parish council is pleased to be able to support them in continuing their activities.

“All the groups who entered this year are well deserved winners and you can see from the list of entries what a good selection of activities are available to the residents of Helsby.”

The parish council hope to hold another grants evening in 2015.
