A volunteer at the Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford will take to the skies this weekend (August 16) to raise cash for the charity.

Paul Baddeley, who has the muscle-wasting disease Muscular Dystrophy, will travel the longest zip wire in Europe for sponsorship.

Three times a week he travels to Winsford from Stoke on Trent to work at the centre.

He said: I have been involved with the Neuromuscular Centre for 15 years now. They been a lifeline to me, the centre has helped me through some very difficult times and without the support of the centre’s physiotherapist’s I am sure that I wouldn’t be walking now.

“I have longed to do something to raise money for the centre for a long time but due to my physical condition I have not been able to arrange anything until now. I know a zip wire run doesn’t sound that scary but this one definitely is.”

On August 16 Paul will be launched from a platform in Snowdonia Mountains down the one-mile long zip head first with his hands tied behind his back and should hit speeds of between 90 and 115 mph.
