A Mickle Trafford family are completing several challenges this year to raise funds for the charity that supported their dad after he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in January last year.
Chloe Townsend, 25, and her partner Matthew Carlin, 25, completed the Chester Half Marathon in sweltering conditions last month, while brother Jon, 26, will undertake the gruelling Tough Mudder obstacle course in September with Matthew.
The Team Macmillan Trio has already raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and is aiming to reach £2,000.
Chloe said: “When dad was diagnosed with cancer last year the whole family went in to shock. We all coped with the news differently.
“Me and my mum wanted to know exactly what was going to happen, whereas my dad didn’t want to know many details.
“Macmillan were fantastic in supporting us in many different ways. The information they provided was excellent and really helped to inform us on dad’s diagnosis and the treatment he would be receiving.”
Chloe praised both the Countess of Chester Hospital and the Mealor Hospital in Wrexham for their ‘fantastic’ treatment of her dad Steve, who has now been given the all clear following surgery and chemotherapy.
“We couldn’t have asked for better support from Macmillan so as a family we decided to raise funds for the charity to say thank you,” Chloe said.
“Even my grandma has been fundraising for us, taking our sponsorship forms into church with her.”
Fundraising manager for Cheshire Sarah Page said: “It is brilliant the way the Townsends have all come together to raise funds for Macmillan to say thank you for our support. They did fantastically at the Chester Half Marathon and I am sure they will conquer Tough Mudder too!
“We are 98% funded from donations to the public so we couldn’t provide our vital support services to people in the local community without donations from the public.
“We are currently funding over £1m worth of cancer services across Cheshire so now, more than ever, we need people to join our team and get involved.”
