“BLACON High is going to be a good school very soon, but our school development plan is clearly that this is going to be an outstanding learning community.

“The young people on the Blacon estate deserve the best life chances and we are in a fantastic position to be that route for young people in this community.

“Blacon High is a very happy, well-ordered, inclusive school and I want to keep hold of that as we move forward.

“I truly believe that in the next two years, Blacon High School is going to have experienced its most positive and exciting developments. I am absolutely confident that is going to be the case.

“We describe ourselves as a restless school, in that we take on board whatever evaluations say and then we plan next steps and we are constantly looking at ways to improve and develop.

“As far as the next year is concerned, we are working on another bursary programme with a new group from Years 10 and 11, looking at the best possible bursaries for them for further study.

“2014 is about us securing a good judgment in Ofsted and I’m pleased to say that with the most recent HMI visit the week before last, we are very confident we’ll be able to do that.

“Absolutely central to our ambitions for for the next year is we want to make sure we get as many students choosing this school as first choice. We want this to be the first choice school for students in Blacon.

“We have a forward-looking governing body. We’ve recently recruited some new members to our governing body. We’ve got some people who are managing directors in industry and they’ve brought their views of leadership and management and change. That’s been a really positive development that we’re very proud of.

“We are getting a complete rebuild in 2017, as we’re part of the Priority School Building Programme.

“It will be a highly aspirational building, which will be fantastic for the young people on the Blacon estate.

“We’ve been actively involved in designing a building to meet the needs of our students.”
