There was romance, intrigue, action, killer tunes and of course lots of splurging for The Queen’s School’s production of the musical Bugsy this month.

More than 85 pupils from the senior school captivated audiences with this musical theatre classic with wit, style and confidence.

With pupils taking a lead in stage management, choreography, forming the theatre band, managing the lighting and sound and publicising the show, it was a labour of love for them all.

Being a girls school, both the male and female roles were taken by girls with head girl Amber Prothero in the title role. Year 9 pupil Emma Brierley as Blousey Brown, Lydia Roxburgh was Tallulah, Alex Williams, Fat Sam and Steph Lewis Dandy Dan.

The show’s producer Katherine Larder said: “The production team was made up of both teachers and pupils and we made it our mission to involve as many pupils as possible for this show. I’m so pleased we did as it made for a wonderfully explosive sound to match the action and some visually stunning scenes.

“My congratulations go to the entire cast; it was a magnificent team effort!”
