Frodsham Methodist Church has announced which charity it will support in the coming year.

The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace has been chosen by the church as a focus for their fundraising throughout 2014.

The foundation, set up by the parents of 12-year old Tim Parry and supported by the parents of three-year old Johnathan Ball who were tragically killed as a result of the IRA’s 1993 bombing in Warrington, works nationally and internationally to promote peace and non-violent conflict resolution.

The Rev Denise Harding, minister at the church, said: “Whilst we support a variety of charities, each year we choose a specific charity to focus our fundraising on, usually alternating between a charity working at home and one abroad.

“We are delighted to have chosen the Foundation for Peace as our Church Charity 2014.

“In a year that marks the centenary of the start of the First World War we believe it is important to support young people to turn away from violence and to challenge prejudice and discrimination in all its forms.”

The church charity was officially launched during the church’s annual covenant service on January 19, where the congregation renew their commitments to serve God and fellow people at the beginning of the new year.
