A former Queen’s School teacher had a special role to play in the reopening of a refurbished section of the nursing home where she now resides.

Florence Osborn, who will be 100-years-old on December 19 this year, cut the ribbon to mark the reopening of the lounge and communal area at Tarvin Court.

The area had been revamped by volunteers from Vauxhall Motors in Ellesmere Port. Tarvin Court’s office manager Dawn Smyth’s husband Carl is a team leader at Vauxhall Motors and he arranged the volunteer crew.

Born in Bradford, Florence was the first in her family to go to university.

She studied mathematics and geography at Reading before becoming a maths teacher.

Florence enjoyed travelling in the school holidays and spent a memorable summer travelling around Italy, visiting many places, including Florence!

She spent much of her time looking after her parents as they grew older, particularly caring for her mother. She was a regular church goer and frequented The Holy Ascension Church in Upton and Chester Cathedral.

Florence moved to Tarvin Court in November 2008 and has become an integral part of the community.
