Margaret Denton enjoys garden party at Buckingham Palace

Firs School headteacher Margaret Denton at the Buckingham Palace garden party

Headteacher of The Firs School in Chester Margaret Denton was in royal company at a garden party in Buckingham Palace.

She had been invited for a special reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and nominated by the Independent Schools Association for her services to children, families and young people.

The event marked The Duke’s 93rd birthday and joining the royal party was the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Andrew, the Princess Royal and Princess Eugenie.

Mrs Denton had a clear view of the royal party as it moved through the gardens. She said; “It was an unforgettable day. I was really surprised and honoured to be nominated, it really made all my efforts and work over the years worth it. The sun shone on the guests and grounds and we were treated to finger sandwiches, pastries and scones. We were asked to be there well before 3pm, as the security was tight. The Royal Party came out on to the terrace at 4pm. to the National Anthem, spending almost two hours chatting to individuals in the crowd.

“You couldn’t buy what we have enjoyed and it adds to the 17 years I have enjoyed so much at The Firs School.”

Mrs Denton has a DVD of the day and the invitation from The Lord Chamberlain with the Royal Seal on.

Mrs Denton retires from The Firs School at the end of August 2014.
