A charity which rebuilds the confidence of young people after cancer treatment is over £1,200 better off thanks to a school in the town.

The Acorns Primary and Nursery School on Pooltown Road, Ellesmere Port raised the money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

The trust takes young people sailing to help them back onto their feet.

The cash came in from a DVD night in school and two staff members, teacher Debbie Moffitt and site manager Derek Edwards completing a 5k swim.

The DVD night raised £332 while the swim pulled in £900 with sponsorship from Cheshire based contractors The Playground Company who had designed and built a pirate ship for the infants playground at the school.

Former cancer patient Paul Gavin came into school to receive the cheque on behalf of the trust.
