Eager new students arriving from across the country queued to get their hands on bargains at this year’s ‘Student Takeover’ event at the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, Chester.

More than 2,000 freshers and existing students enjoyed exclusive discounts from the centre’s retailers, including stores such as Topshop, TK Maxx, Dorothy Perkins and Schuh.

The ‘Stay Fashion Fresh’ themed event included a large bath displayed in the middle of the shopping centre filled with bath-time rubber ducks. Students participated in a ‘hook a duck’ themed game in aid of the centre’s chosen charity of the year, Claire House Hospice, where a £50 voucher to spend in the centre was up for grabs.

Students also gathered at a ‘Fashion Fresh’ photo booth in force, snapping selfies to share on The Grosvenor Shopping Centre’s Twitter channel, in a bid to bag £50 worth of shopping vouchers to use at the centre.

'A massive success'

Local businesses including Urbano 32 and Burger Shed supported the event by dishing out free food and drink for the students to enjoy.

Capital FM provided entertainment with a live DJ and giant beer pong with local Breakfast presenter, Ben Sheppard having custard pies thrown in his face to raise funds for Global Radio’s ‘Make Some Noise’ day which aims to make a difference to small projects across the UK.

Julie Webb, The Grosvenor Shopping Centre’s manager, said: “Once again the student takeover was a massive success. More students than ever before joined us for a fun-packed evening of activities and shopping.

“We love being able to welcome new students to the area and help them settle in to Chester.”
