A police helicopter has been helping to search for the driver of a Ford Transit who pulled over and ran off after realising they were being followed by a patrol car.

Cheshire Police says the incident happened just before 1pm today (Thursday, May 14) on the A483 Wrexham Road, close to Chester’s King’s School, where the aerial search has been taking place.

PC Mark Evans, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said the white Ford Transit, towing a caravan, was being followed by a patrol car – not under blue lights – who was checking ownership details when the Transit stopped and the driver ran off. The check revealed separate ownership details for the van and caravan.

The vehicles are now being recovered by police. PC Evans said the area around Wrexham Road was being searched. The outstanding person has not been found at the moment.
