A 51-year-old home help from Chester was sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting stealing from those she was meant to care for.

Susan Drammeh from Halton Road was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday, September 5 after admitting to six counts of theft at an earlier hearing.

Drammeh was an employee of Cheshire West and Chester Care Home Team. In July 2013 she stole a wedding ring, eternity ring and engagement ring off a 77-year-old woman while attending to help her.

She also stole a gold locket from an 89-year-old woman who was getting help to look after her elderly husband.

PC Jenny Black who was investigating the case traced the stolen gold to a jewellery shop in Ellesmere Port which further tied Drammeh to the thefts and she was subsequently charged.

PC Black said: “This has been a long and emotional investigation for the victims and I would like to congratulate them for their resolve and persistence.

“Drammeh took advantage of elderly clients in the belief that they were vulnerable. However, the complainants were fully aware of what had taken place and were efficient in providing the police with the evidence needed to present the case to the court.

“Let this be a lesson to those exploiting a position of trust.”

A spokesman for Cheshire West and Chester Council said today: “We would strongly condemn any such despicable violation of trust. In this particular case the defendant, employed with a clean record, was suspended immediately the issue came to light and dismissed as soon as investigations permitted.”
