Children and grown-ups across  Ellesmere Port celebrated World Book  Day last Thursday (March 6) by dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Our Twitter feed (@EPPioneer) and  Ellesmere Port Pioneer Facebook page were full of creative costumes from Cruella Deville from 101 Dalmatians to Toy Story’s Woody, Red Riding Hood to The Incredible Hulk.

Libby Feeney, six, from Capenhurst CE  Primary School, was so taken with her book that she found a comfy spot on top of the  bronze elephant outside Chester Cathedral to find out what happens next.

Pictures from Chester's World Book Day can be found in our first gallery and second gallery .

World Book Day was first celebrated in the UK in 1995 and takes place on the first Thursday in  March.

To encourage reading, all children  are entitled to receive a £1 World  Book Day book  token which they  can swap for specially-produced WBD books.
