The Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Jill Houlbrook, is teaming up with fundraiser Max Walker to help raise thousands of pounds for BBC Children in Need during CarFest North at Oulton Park this weekend.

Max is the North West representative of charitable motoring organisation The Sporting Bears and all their members have pledged to help children’s charities by using their cars to raise funds through a variety of activities.

These include club members offering to take people on a ‘Dream Ride’ in vehicles in exchange for a donation to charity.

The car club boasts an impressive array of classic, vintage, custom and sports cars — along with some quirky models like Herbie which will be joined for one weekend only by the Lord Mayor’s own Bentley Azure complete with chauffeur, civic crest and, of course, the Lord Mayor herself in robes and chains.

Max Walker said: “Over the past 25 years, The Sporting Bears have raised more than £1m for children’s charities and offered dream rides in everything from a Lamborghini Aventador to the Mystery Machine!

“But we have never been joined by a Lord Mayoral Bentley and hope this unique ride will help us smash the £15,000 we made at last year’s CarFest events.”

Max’s wife, Rachel Walker, is Chester’s Lady Mayoress and a regular volunteer for the Sporting Bears. She said: “Last year we raised a record amount of money for Children in Need, and I was delighted to be invited on stage with Chris Evans to thank all our volunteers, drivers and the public who donated so generously.”
