A PRODUCTION company which has fought to keep Chester’s theatrical tradition alive has been nominated for the team award.

When the Northgate Development forced the Gateway Theatre to close in 2007, Tip Top Productions asked the council for permission to use part of the building for rehearsals and productions.

Company manager Steve Davies said: “We had actually done the final production at the old Gateway, so we brought the curtain down.”

Since then, the Forum Studio Theatre has gone from strength to strength, providing much-needed performance space for both Tip Top’s shows and visiting companies.

“It’s wonderful to be nominated, because everybody is a volunteer. We are doing it because we love the theatre and performing on stage,” said Steve.

The company also promotes upcoming scriptwriters through its new writing projects and encourages school groups to use the studio for their GCSE performances.

Tip Top’s next production will be Showtune, a musical revue playing at the Forum from November 10-19.

The group holds open auditions for every production and is on the lookout for new members.
