A COUNCILLOR is urging businesses in Frodsham to ‘do their bit’ and clear icy pavements outside their shops to safeguard customers during the cold snap.

Former Frodsham mayor Andrew Dawson said he was struck by the icy conditions on pavements outside many shops recently.

As a result he appealed to traders: “Do you want people to come and shop at your premises? Well, get your shovels out and do your bit.”

Cllr Dawson said shop owners could ask for free bags of grit to be delivered by Frodsham Town Council.

They could use it to clear town centre pavements and extend the authority’s successful local winter gritting scheme he initiated, which provides free grit to residents who volunteer to spread it on side roads and pavements in their area.

“That way, we can all help keep Frodsham moving, safe and open for business,” said Cllr Dawson.

Residents and shopkeepers who would like to take part in the scheme should contact town clerk Jon Wild on 01928 735150.
