YOUNG singers in Chester have tasted stardom.

The pupils from St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School in Hoole sang with Blue star Lee Ryan at the MEN Arena.

The youngsters, who are aged seven to 11, took part in an event organised by Young Voices, the provider of the world’s largest children’s choir concerts. The 7,000 children involved joined Lee to sing Blue hit One Love.

Year 6 teacher Louise McCurry said: “It was fantastic. It was a really long day but the children sang really well. All their parents came to see them and the arena was absolutely packed.”

Other schools taking part in the concert were Ashton Hayes, Boughton Heath, Oldfield, J H Godwin, Capenhurst and Tattenhall Park primary schools, Queens Lower School, Abbey Gate School and St David’s High School in Saltney.

The concert was conducted by David Lawrence, assistant conductor for the Birmingham Symphony Chorus and also featured champion beatboxer Beardyman, up-and-coming tenor Alexander Grove and soprano Louise Sjöstedt.
