Chester Football Club are hoping for a bumper return of juniors to the club this weekend on the back of last week’s England Under 19 international.

A crowd of 3,412 attended the game at the Swansway Chester Stadium, which saw a 3-0 win for England over Turkey with Devante Cole, Lewis Baker and Callum Robinson on the scoresheet.

The match was a real community occasion, with hundreds of youngsters from across the region turning up for the international.

The FA worked closely with the club on ticketing and provided free admission to a number of Charter Standard clubs and local schools.

A cut-price initiative saw other youngsters admitted for £1 and they witnessed a footballing feast.

Two children, Alfie Clarke, seven from Waverton Primary School and Finlay Ehlen, five from St Oswald’s CE Primary School in Mollington, were team mascots for the night and players from Chester FC under 13s were flag bearers and ball boys.

To encourage the youngsters back to the club, Chester FC has announced that any under 16s who have a ticket from the international game will be admitted to this Saturday’s Chester match against Alfreton Town free of charge if they show their international ticket.

Business development manager Dave Riche said: “We were pleased with the way things ran on the night and delighted with the crowd and the atmosphere.

“The FA were impressed with the friendliness, professionalism and organisation at the club and we hope to host more similar fixtures.

“The volunteers did a tremendous job in every area they assisted and we would also like to thank the security, catering and ground staff for their efforts.

“The aim now is to retain some of the youngsters who attended and we hope the initiative this weekend will prove popular.”

Chester FC also have 250 tickets for free admission to under 12s for the south stand available to the game this weekend in a promotion.

Any junior who wants admittance to the game who is under 12 needs to go and see club mascot Big Lupus at 2pm on Saturday in the club shop and collect their ticket, which will give them free admittance to the south stand.
