ACTORS and actresses at St Thomas More Catholic High School, Crewe, are preparing to tread the boards in a production of Arthur Miller's tale of the Salem witch trials, The Crucible.

It will be staged on Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm.

Last year's performance of the Wizard of Oz was a great success and pupils and staff are hoping to emulate that with this classic tale.

The central roles of John and Elizabeth Proctor are to be played by Daniel Johnson and Rosalyn Morley, who are joined by Kristine Gallagher as Abigail.

Head of drama and dance, Ceri Gerrish, said: 'We are in dress rehearsals and it has proved a very challenging but fun play to direct.

'We have a cast of around 30 children from all year groups and they are a fantastic bunch.

'There are some really long scenes and speeches, which the children have had to work incredibly hard to get right.

'We have been rehearsing since September and it is really coming together now.

'Hopefully, lots of people will come and see us because loads of hard work has gone in to this production and we are all really proud of it.'
