A woman was rescued by firefighters after her car flipped on its roof leaving her trapped inside.

At just before 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, March 2) emergency  services were called to the A54 Chester Road at the junction with the A556 after reports of a two car collision.

A female driver was trapped inside for almost an hour while firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the roof of her car.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for potential spinal  injuries. The other driver is not said to have been hurt in the collision.

Eight firefighters from Chester fire station and the station’s doctor attended the scene of the incident outside Organsdale Farm at the turn-off to Winsford.

Crew manager Dave Doneo said: “We had to remove the roof to get her out.

“The car did flip onto the roof, but luckily it landed on its wheels. She was conscious, she was not physically trapped but medically.”

It is not clear what caused the incident, which saw police and paramedics attend the scene.
