A woman is being treated in hospital for smoke inhalation after her Northwich house caught fire.

Fire crews were called to the property on Kingsway just after midday on Saturday (February 8) and discovered the blaze which had taken hold of the ground floor of the semi detached property.

The road was closed and a cordon set up to enable crews to tackle the fire. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

The woman who lived at the property had managed to get out before the crews arrived was taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.

Firefighters also carried out home safety assessments on neighbouring properties.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
