A woman managed to escape from her car when it ended up in a canal this morning (November 17).

Fire crews from Chester were called to Long Lane at Hargrave shortly after 8am after a car was reported to be in the Shropshire Union Canal.

The woman was reported to be out of the water before firefighters arrived.

Cheshire Police said the driver is believed to have suffered 'minor injuries' in the ordeal.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to a car in a canal. One woman was out of the water on the arrival of the crew. Police were also involved."
