DETECTIVES are appealing for information after thieves attempted to steal from a cash machine in Elton.

The incident took place overnight at Elton Post Office in Ince Lane.

Four men dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered tried to gain access to the ATM sometime between 3.45am and 4am on May 20 . The offenders then fled the scene empty handed. They are believed to have left in a dark coloured car, possibly an Audi.

DC Nadine Sturgess said: “A number of lines of enquiry are currently being carried out including CCTV enquiries and any relevant forensic enquiries. We are also carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

“We are appealing to anyone in the local community who may have seen or heard anything significant around that time to come forward. We are also appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the post office prior to the attempt to get in touch.

“The offenders, who were wearing dark clothing, fled the scene shortly after the incident and we are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen something significant to contact us. Even the smallest amount of information can be useful when piecing together a case.”
