Chester’s first Winter Watch brought colour to the city streets last Thursday (December 10).

Angels, devils, skeletons and Victorian cooks followed the Lord of Misrule, breathing fire, with entertainment provided by musicians including Karamba Samba.

The history of the parade goes back to medieval times when city leaders marched through the streets to ensure it was secure before handing over the keys to the City Watch - the early police force.

This was followed by a banquet and celebration of Christmas, knowing the city was safe.

If you missed this seasonal spectacular, a second Winter Watch parade will take place on Thursday, December 17, at the same time as the city’s Roman Saturnalia.

The fun starts at the town hall at 7pm.
