Staff at a family-run fish bar in Winsford are frying high after their chips have been named the best in Cheshire.

FoodCraft on High Street battered the competition to win Best Chippy Chips in the county in the Choice Chip Awards.

The annual contest is run by the Potato Council in recognition of National Chip Week, which took place between February 16 and 22 this year.

More than 1,600 loyal customers voted for FoodCraft, which doubles up as a bakery making artisan pies.

The honour comes in the same year the popular chippy is celebrating its 55th anniversary.

Delighted owner John Finney, who manages the business with his brother Christopher after taking over from their parents John and Iris, said: “It is nice to win something voted by customers.

“We entered it for the first time last year and then we decided to give it another go this year.

“We had over 1,600 votes which was brilliant.”

John said the secret to their success is ‘just quality and consistency’.

He added: “We have always aimed high and people keep coming back – we are third generation now with some customers, who seem to like what we do.

“Times do change but chippies are still going strong and they are still very popular.”
