SPORTS tutor Simon O’Brien could soon be following in the footsteps of David Beckham as he heads across the Atlantic for a soccer trial.
Simon, 22, who lives in Neston and has worked at West Cheshire College for 12 months, is going for a tryout for the Portland Timbers in Oregon – a feeder team for Beckham’s LA Galaxy squad.
Simon said: “I’ve always loved football and played competitively since I was eight. I’ve always had an ambition to move to the United States to play there.
“My mum always supported me in my dream but she sadly died last year so I think the time has come to try to realise my dream and make the move.”
But going for US tryouts isn’t cheap and Simon is hoping local businesses may be able to sponsor him to help him achieve his aims.
Simon, who studied at Sheffield Hallam University and played for their first team, currently plays for Capenhurst Villa in the West Cheshire league.
