HEALTH and social care students at West Cheshire College have been given a great insight into their chosen career.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s new Director of Adult Social Care and Health, Mark Palethorpe, visited the Chester campus to talk to the students.

Recently appointed Mr Palethorpe, who himself is a former student of the college, held a discussion session with students on the BTEC National Diploma.

Mr Palethorpe shared his thoughts regarding current changes within the health and social care sector and the impact it will have on future careers. The day also included a tour of the new build.

Helen Jones, manager of care at the college, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to meet Mr Palethorpe. They were able to hear firsthand about his successful career in health and social care and his view of future issues affecting the industry.

“As well as the session we also had the pleasure of giving Mr Palethorpe a tour of our new Science and Technologies campus, which opens in February.

“The students hugely appreciated his time and knowledge and we look forward to working with him again in the future.”

Mr Palethorpe said: “It was a real pleasure to be back at West Cheshire College and to meet the next generation of social care and health staff.

“I was hugely impressed with the students and with the development of vocational learning within the college. I look forward to returning when the new campuses are up and running.”
