WELSH Water is investing £900,000 in a scheme that will alleviate flooding and deliver environmental benefits to The Groves area of Chester.

The utility company will begin work on Monday, October 26 to upgrade the wastewater network in the area.Š

When completed, the scheme will improve performance of the network during storm weather conditions by reducing the number of times unscreened storm water is released into the River Dee.Š

This will deliver a boost to the environment by improving water quality in the river.

Work will take place in stages on The Groves between Grosvenor Rowing club and the Blue Moon café.Š

In order for the scheme to be carried out safely, the company has put forward a traffic management proposal which has been agreed with Cheshire West and Chester Council Area Highways Office and Cheshire Police, subject to carrying out consultation with businesses and residents along Dee Lane and The Groves.Š

Pedestrian access will remain throughout the scheme and local businesses will be open as normal.

Work on this essential upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of March next year.Š

Clara Hughes, Welsh Water’s communications representative, said: “This essential scheme reflects Welsh Water’s commitment to invest in its wastewater network for the benefit of its customers and the local environment.Š

“We would like to thank local residents for bearing with us while this essential work is carried out and in particular thank the owners of the Boathouse Inn, Grosvenor Rowing Club, Kings School and Blue Moon cafe for their co-operation in the planning of the scheme.”
