Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for Weaver Vale completed the Race for Life in Delamere Forest to raise vital funds for Cancer Research.

When Julia Tickridge, a keen runner, learned of the diagnosis of the stepdaughter of her friend and colleague, Dr Iris Keating of Preston Brook, she was delighted to lend her support to raise money for the charity.

Mrs Tickridge said: “The Race for Life is a fantastic event encouraging women of all ages at all levels of fitness to get out and run, jog or walk – all determined to do something to help get rid of cancer.

“Team Sally set a target of £500, thinking they were being a bit optimistic, but the amount they raised is £1,800 with more continuing to come in.

“We raced for life for those that have died, those that have survived, those still fighting and those striving to find a cure.”

Dr Keating added: “My stepdaughter Sally was diagnosed with cancer in December 2013. As soon as her dad and I heard the word our world fell apart.

“This is every parent's nightmare. She was so positive but we were in tatters.

“The Race for Life was one way we felt that we were doing something to help.

“What started out as a very small group, grew and grew and I was astounded at the people who offered to join Team Sally.

“Julia knew about Sally and I was delighted when she agreed to join us too. In all, 24 of us did the race.”
