You'll need to dig out your wellies and brollies if you venture out this weekend, as the Met Office has issued a weather warning for heavy and persistent rain for Cheshire West and Chester .

The wet weather is expected to kick in at 3pm on Saturday (November 14) and last until 3am on Monday (November 16).

Some areas could see 70-100mm of rain, but some more exposed parts could experience as much as 150-200mm during the period.

Flooding possible

Flooding is a possibility, due to rain falling on to already saturated ground either from standing water or rivers bursting their banks.

A spokesperson for the Met Office explained the meteorology behind it: "A strong, moist westerly flow is expected to develop during Saturday and last through Sunday before clearing to the southeast on Monday.

"A frontal system aligned within this flow is expected to bring a period of heavy and persistent rain, this aided by tropical air being entrained into the system."

Police warning

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: "We are reminding members of the public to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, and as winter approaches it is extremely important that staff and officers do the same, and conduct winter weather checks on their own vehicles.

"Although autumn this year has been quite mild, the winter weather is now starting to approach, so it important that everyone is prepared."
