It may be the first day of June but Chester and Ellesmere Port are set to experience unseasonably high winds over the next few days as active frontal systems sweep across the area, according to the Met Office which has issued a yellow wind warning warmer weather is on its way later in the week.

Winds are set to reach between 50-60mph with coastal areas getting blasted with gusts up to 65mph and with the wind comes a mixture of showers and heavy rain.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Following a bright but blustery start Monday will then experience blustery showers, with some on the heavy side.

“By the afternoon we are likely to have more in the way of rain and it’s going to turn increasingly wet and windy.”

The yellow weather warning has been issued from 4pm today (Monday, June 1) until Tuesday 6pm, and things are also set to be a little damp for most of Tuesday, with the odd dry spell.

But after the wind and rain calms, Wednesday marks the start of more settled conditions.

A Met Office spokesman said: “There’ll be highs of 17C, but feeling more pleasant because the winds would have died down and we’ll see more in the way of bright and sunny weather.”

Friday temperatures could reach a balmy 20C, and the next few weeks could see Chester and Ellesmere Port enjoying higher than average temperatures with highs of 26C.

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, said: “From about June 3 onwards we’re going to see warm weather coming up from the Mediterranean, which will lead to the highest temperatures of the year so far.”
