WATCH: Eclipse film by Chester student

Christleton High pupil Ben Hanratty creates short film of solar event

A teenage film maker from Chester has made an atmospheric video of the solar eclipse of Friday, March 20.

Ben Hanratty, 17, who also recently created a video Chester With a Jib, said: "I filmed it on the day of the eclipse, some nice shots in town and then at my school Christleton High. It was great to see the whole school out on the field, everyone staring at the sun with the special eclipse glasses!"

The video contains audio from American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about "the most astounding fact" during a Q and A with TIME magazine.

Christleton High School organised for all of its staff and pupils to watch the dramatic events of the eclipse that unfolded between 8.30-9.32am.

All 1475 pupils and staff ventured outside with their own pair of special solar eclipse glasses especially sourced for the event.

The pupils were thrilled at the opportunity and the weather was particularly on their side.

Deputy headteacher Damian Stenhouse said: “I think we were extremely lucky with the weather and in particular, wish to thank all the staff who organised the event. I was particularly pleased with the way the students behaved amid the obvious excitement and thrill at being able to observe this event”.
