POLICE in Halton are warning wanted criminals to either hand themselves in or face the prospect of Christmas in the cells.
As part of a clampdown, Sergeant Andy Delooze and the Runcorn neighbourhood policing team have so far arrested 26 people.
Those targeted include offenders wanted on warrant by the courts, repeat offenders and those committing anti-social behaviour.
The operation will focus particularly on arresting those wanted for failing to appear in court.
Sergeant Delooze said: 'There is a common misconception that by not turning up at court, people can dodge penalties. This is not the case.
'We will be knocking on the door of every wanted person in our area; this could be at any time of the day or night, to make sure that they are put before the courts. That could mean spending Christmas in prison.
'If you have dodged a court appearance or know you are wanted, hand yourself in.'
You can call the police on 0845 458 0000.
