Volunteers are needed in Chester for this year’s Big Dee Clean Up on September 19 and 20.

There will be bulb planting, bench painting and woodland tidy up at The Cop on Sealand Road, practical conservation work on the Meadows, a litter pick at the Groves and a river boat team will collect litter and debris along the river.

Organisers are also hoping to hear from volunteers who can help with litter picks and tidy ups along the waterways in and around the River Dee area of the city.

Over the past five years the event has grown significantly and now includes Cheshire West and Chester, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and Gwynedd and is supported by the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

Lord Mayor of Chester and Admiral of the Dee, Bob Rudd said: “The Big Dee Day is a fantastic opportunity for residents and businesses to help keep the River Dee and the local inland waterways clean, welcoming and litter free – not just pleasing visually, but also to benefit the wildlife in our beautiful city.

“The event is growing year on year and with the help of our sponsors and volunteers, we really are making a big difference.”

Some of the organisations in Chester that have already pledged to help are: Chester Football Club, Hickory’s, Aqua House, McDonalds, Bromborough Paints, and Asda, Saltney.
