A GROTTO filled with rails of vintage treasures, records and trinkets has reopened its doors after moving to Brook Street.

On February 11 shoppers braved the cold and queued outside the newly relocated Becnicks Wonder-Emporim to be the first to browse the rails and snap up a vintage bargain as the store celebrated its grand reopening.

Shoppers sifted through mountains of vinyl records, cupboards of classic clothing and draws of jewelled accessories, while enjoying sipping cocktails and trying canapés served-up by staff from Chester restaurant Artichoke.

Traders hope the store, which occupies 88-94 Brook Street – once home to a carpet and rug manufacturer – will be even more successful than its previous location in Boughton, opening up the vintage finds to increasing footfall closer to the city centre and Chester Railway Station.

During the grand opening DJ Pinky entertained shoppers with hits from the 1950s and 60s, and guests enjoyed playing pool and snooker in the back room, before relaxing with a cup of tea and cake in the vintage Art Nouveau cafe.

The shop, which showcases the work of local photographers, craft makers, collectors and artists, has more than seven stalls, which the owners believe hold treasures which will ‘bring any outfit to life’.

Becnicks is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am-6pm and 11am-4pm on Sundays. For more information, call 01244 312485.
