Runners in a Cheshire village lined up for a popular run earlier this month.

The Tilston 10k race, a firm annual fixture in village life, took place on September 6.

After a warm-up under the guidance of personal trainer Amy Salt, participants set off to enthusiastic encouragement from a team of volunteers marshalls.

A new course record was set by first-time runner Daniel Weston who won the men’s event in 33m 24s, with Andrew Sudlow coming in second for the second year running at 37m 28s), and Andrew Batchelor third 38m 36s.

The women’s trophy was retained by Leah Leonard with a time of 41m 11s with Donna Macloskey 46m just beating Jenny Hunter 46m 10s to second place.

Male veterans were led home by Ian Grandfield, with James Jenkin and Andrew Corbett close behind.

Donna Macloskey led the female veterans home for a second year, with Jo Grandfield in second and Jan Green in third.

Winners received medals sponsored by Whitchurch Sports and presented by this year’s Miss Wakes Sally Mosford.

All other participants received a medal as they crossed the line, sponsored by Shaun Jones of Tilston Shop and Village Stores who also ran the race.

Dan Mee Of DM Sports Therapy was on hand to deal with any aches or strains after the race, and water and snacks were on offer from The Paddock B&B, Huxley’s of Malpas, The Co-operative, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Londis.

Additional sponsorship and support came from Blue Loos, i7 Technologies Ltd., Elginhill Ltd and Broxton Gates.

The event will have raised about £900 for local causes.

Next year’s race is planned for Sunday, September 11 2016.
