ORGANISERS of Davenham Carnival are hoping for another scorching weekend in which to celebrate what is their 40th annual event.

The procession starts at the top of Hartford Road, by the bypass, at 12.30pm on Saturday and will be led along Hartford Road, turning right into London Road by the Oddfellows pub, carrying on through village and then turning right into Fountains Lane and right again into Mount Pleasant Road, ending in Butchers Stile Field.

There will be stalls and entertainment throughout the afternoon with performances by the Wakefield Majorettes. Rose Queen Katie Kinsey will be crowned and there will be a dog display and a draw. There will also be a 24ft climbing wall, clay pigeon shooting match, refreshments, childrens' carousel, sumo wrestling, bouncy castle, penalty shoot out and even a gladiator to joust with.

The fun goes on into the evening, as from 7pm there will be a magic and puppet show by Paul Storey.

Organisers say that, during the day, all under 16-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult and at night all under 18-year-olds must be with an adult. Anyone interested in having a stall on the field or helping the organisers can contact Annelise on 01606 49110 or Karen on 01606 49660.
