Upton-by-Chester High School pupil Jessica Cain Kelly has already raised almost £1800 by shaving her hair off in front of family, staff and students in aid of Cancer Research  UK.

Toni & Guy Salon Director, Gary Maoudis, cut off Jess’ hair in school, yesterday (Wednesday, July 16), which she will sell for hair extensions to raise further funds.

Jess, 13 from Upton has spent years growing her long hair but when her grandad died of cancer she decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK by having her head shaved. Before the event she said: “I am really excited, although I will miss my long hair, I am confident it will grow again over the summer holidays and this is a small  sacrifice in comparison to those suffering cancer.”

Sylvie Beuzit 2nd deputy headteacher of Upton-by-Chester High School added: “Jess is an inspiration to us all and has taken this drastic step as she truly wants to make a difference to the life chances and the quality of life of cancer sufferers.

“As a school community, we are very proud of her and and we are hoping that she exceeds the £2000 she is hoping to raise. We'd also like to thank Tony and  Guy for supporting Jess.”
