A power cut in Upton left 200 homes without electricity on Sunday evening (October 18).

An underground cable fire on Weston Grove caused the blackout from about 7pm.

Suppliers Scottish Power were able to return power to most of the houses affected by 10pm as they had hoped.

But a 'handful' of addresses in the area were in the dark for five hours through until midnight.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended to quickly extinguish the cable fire underneath the pavement.

An SP Energy spokeswoman said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
