Students and staff at a Chester high school have rallied to help the refugee crisis in Europe.

Pupils at Upton-by-Chester High School, who recently won the Trinity Mirror Cheshire Schools Active Community award, have launched a collection of clothing, bedding and toiletries for Syrian refugees.

The school will take donations to Dandy’s Topsoil on Sealand Road and to a collection point in Wrexham where they will be sent to Lesbos.

Teacher Elinor Suter who is coordinating the campaign said: “We have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown by the community so far and will be continuing to collect for the rest of the month.

“Upton by Chester High School has always helped in the community locally and globally. Thank you for helping us to continue this proud tradition.”

If you have any items you would like to donate to the appeal and have a pupil at school, they drop off at C11 (Miss Suter) or you can at the school reception on St James Avenue, Upton.
