A charity event to raise funds for five-year-old Upton girl Erin Cross has been a success.

Cristin Edmunds, a friend of Erin’s parents Sarah and Ant Cross, organised a summer cake party to raise money towards life-saving treatment for Erin who has leukaemia and is due to travel to America soon.

The community came together on Saturday, June 18 at St Columba’s Hall in Upton where there were princesses, face painting, craft stalls, raffles, hot dogs, candy floss, a bouncy castle and a tombola.

The total amount raised, including selling the surplus cakes in two churches on Sunday, June 19, came to £2117.92.

Last week it was revealed Erin finally has a date to receive the life-saving treatment in America that will give her a fighting chance of beating leukaemia.

After an incredible show of support that saw the general public raise more than £150,000 in a matter of days so Erin can undergo Car T Cell Therapy in Seattle, the Cross family have now been given the date of July 27 for five-year-old Erin to have the vital T cell harvest treatment which will then make her well enough to receive a bone marrow transplant that will eventually save her life.

The Cross family now face a ‘mad panic’ of booking flights, packing and sorting insurance but Sarah said they are ‘very excited’ that the time has now come for Erin to receive the treatment she desperately needs.
