UNIVERSITY students have raised a record breaking sum for charity.

Kirsty Challinor, Paul Sherlock, Sarah Hart, Hana-Reigh Zubka Hill and Hannah Clewley raised £1,765.87 for Cancer Research UK with a Viva Las Vegas night at the University of Chester last month.

The events management students, called Zest Events, smashed the university record of £1,000 raised from similar events.

Cancer Research UK representative David Reeves said: “This is a fantastic amount to have raised for such a worthwhile charity – it’s enough to fund a cancer information nurse for a month providing vital information to cancer patients and their family.’

Dean of the business school Phil Harris said: “It’s great to see our students, through their enterprise, compassion and drive, reaching out and making a difference to those most in need of care.”
