POLICE investigating the murder of former Cheshire woman Annie Eels and her colleague at a massage parlour have arrested two men following a CCTV appeal.

Receptionist Annie Eels, 55, formerly of Dunham Hill, near Chester, and later Frodsham, was battered to death at the premises in Shrewsbury along with 24-year-old colleague Samantha Tapper.

The arrest followed a press conference conducted by Detective Chief Inspector Sheila Thornes, at which a number of images of a man caught on CCTV in Shrewsbury on the afternoon of the murders were released.

DCI Thornes said: 'In any murder inquiry, there are literally thousands of items which need to be analysed, checked and processed.

'There have also been hundreds of calls from the public in response to our appeals for information and we are still working through many of these.

'Every single piece of information will help in some way to sharpen our focus.'

The 50-strong police investigation team has been piecing together the movements of the two women in the hours leading up to their deaths.

They have succeeded in narrowing down the time-scale and believe they were killed between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday, July 1.

Several calls were received about a gloved man seen in the Smithfield Road area of Shrewsbury at about 3.15pm to 3.30pm.

He was wearing dark clothing, including gloves, on a very hot day.
