Two drivers are understood to be trapped following a collision involving three HGVs on the M6 northbound between junctions 16 and 17 on Friday (June 26).

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident near Sandbach Services, which happened at around 11am.

The northbound carriageway has been closed between junctions 16 and 17.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire police said: "Three lorries have been in collision and one of the vehicles is believed to have jack-knifed.

"Two drivers are trapped in their vehicles.

"An air ambulance has landed in a nearby field."

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
