TWO people have died and three others have been seriously injured in two separate crashes in Cheshire.

The first accident happened at 6.20pm on the A534 Haslington bypass near Crewe, which claimed the life of a 25-year-old man from the Crewe area.

The crash involved his red BMW, a white articulated DAF lorry and a Volkswagen Lupo. The drivers of the other vehicles escaped without injury.

At 9.30pm on Sunday, January 4 on the A34 Newcastle Road outside Moreton Hall, when a silver Mini Cooper left the carriageway.

All four occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured and a 20-year-old woman from the Cannock area later died of her injuries.

A 21-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent and two 19-year-old men from Cannock are in a comfortable condition in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw any of the vehicles involved in the fatal crashes before the incidents. Contact Sgt Ian Holley at Eastern Area SIU on 01244 613328.

A HGV driver escaped unhurt when his lorry overturned on the M56/M53 slip road towards Ellesmere Port due to severe black ice on Monday, January 5 at 2am. At 7.15am, five vehicles were involved in a pile-up close to MBNA in Chester. Nobody was injured and the road was cleared and reopened within 45 minutes.
