CHESTER International Links Association hosted the annual meeting of Chester’s French, Italian and German partner towns.

The Mayor of Lorrach, two deputy mayors of Sens, and senior councillors of Lorrach, Sens and Senigallia together with appropriate officers, met members of CILA to discuss a programme of international projects and exchanges over the next three years.

They were joined by representatives of the University of Chester, Marketing Cheshire, English in Chester, Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council, and local cultural organisations.

Topics under discussion included:

The participation of local children in the annual Youth Games and Youth Camp between the four towns.

Student exchanges and other co-operation between the University of Chester and universities in Germany and Italy.

An EU-funded project to develop sustainable tourism, which involves tourism organisations and universities in the partner towns.

Participation by students in exchanges.

Visits and exchanges by cultural groups and other organisations.

The delegates were also received by the Lord Mayor of Chester at a civic reception and attended a lunch at Chester Racecourse.

The visit ended with a reception and concert in the Long Room at Eaton Park, by kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Westminster.

Eric Plenderleath, chairman of CILA, said: “Chester International Links Association as an independent organisation, were proud to host the annual meeting in Chester.

“Many new links have been forged between organisations in Chester and their counterparts in Europe.”
